  2. OPERATIONS AT PLACENCIA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT IN PLACENCIA MUNICIPAL, STANN CREEK DISTRICT.

  • A. Introduction
  • Placencia Municipal Airport in Placencia Airport, Stann Creek District is open to aircraft operations. Certain operating limitations are in effect, and these are detailed below. Placencia Municipal Airport in Placencia Airport, Stann Creek District is not an international port of entry or departure and as such, all international aircraft operations must enter and depart via the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport. Caution must be exercised whilst operating at this Airstrip.

  11. Runway Strip: To the north: average of 100 feet. To the south: 80 ft of the NE half of the runway, and 100 ft NW half of the runway. THS 26 (true THS not displaced THS, for the displaced THS can be used in Take-off) has a runway strip of 45ft to the NE, until it reaches the perimeter fence. THS 08 has a runway strip of 100ft leading NW into the mangrove and lagoon. North side of the runway strip is of approximately 100ft.South side of the runway strip is approximately 80 ft of the NE half of the runway, and 100 ft NW half of the runway.
  12. Obstacles: There are obstacles to the southwest of the aerodrome (cluster of two-story structures across the canal, adjacent to the western runway threshold). Caution when operating here is required. Public road is extremely close and is 330 east of THS 26.
  13. Type of operation: Non-instrument aerodrome and is to be used only in Visual Meteorological Conditions.
  14. Night operations: Runway and taxiway lights available. Certified for night operations. VFR Night operations are approved at this Aerodrome. Aircraft operators must make arrangements with the BAA to use the aerodrome at night and ensure flight plans are filed with Air Traffic Control. Operations will be limited to aircraft with Belizean Nationality and Registration Marks only. Please make reference to BDCA Operational Directives.
  15. Air traffic density: Moderate operations at this Aerodrome and parking may be limited.
  16. Facilities: No Air Traffic Control Services. Aerodrome has an airport rotating beacon.
  17. Other Information: Many flights overfly this aerodrome en-route to and from the Punta Gorda Airstrip. Caution whilst operating here.

  • C. Operating Limitations: 
  1. Foreign aircraft desiring to operate at the Placencia Municipal Airport must first satisfy the entry requirements from the facilitation agencies at the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport. Aircraft must subsequently obtain a written approval from the BAA. AIS/ARO, Department of Civil Aviation will confirm BAA’s authorization to conduct domestic flying at the PLJ prior to the aircraft’s departure from the Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport.
  2. Only those aircraft whose Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) which does not exceed 20,000 pounds are allowed to operate at the Placencia Municipal Airport subject to prior approval as described in (a) above.
  3. Jet engine aircraft shall not be allowed to operate at this aerodrome due to the limited runway/taxiway PCN and the noise factor.
  4. Helicopters are allowed to operate at this aerodrome however these will require approval of the Belize Airports Authority. Requests are treated on an individual basis.
  5. Extreme caution must be exercised due to road running around the runway on the eastern section of this Airport.
