Belize is home to a total of thirty-six (36) aerodromes, comprising sixteen (16) public and twenty (20) private facilities. The Belize Airports Authority (BAA) holds the responsibility for the administration of local public aerodromes.

Among the key aerodromes under BAA management are the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport, Caye Caulker Municipal Airstrip, John Grief II Airport, Placencia Municipal Airstrip, Punta Gorda Municipal Airstrip, Pelican Beach Municipal Airstrip, Ranchito Municipal Airstrip, and His Excellency Alfredo Martinez Municipal Airstrip. It is noteworthy that the PSW Goldson International Airport operates under a contract with the Belize Airport Concession Company, thereby placing its day-to-day operations outside direct control by the BAA, although the BAA retains ownership.

The primary objective of the Belize Airports Authority is to effectively manage and administer designated airports, ensuring the provision of all requisite services and facilities essential for their seamless operations. While this mandate may appear straightforward, the BAA plays a pivotal role in the comprehensive development of the civil aviation sector and contributes significantly to the economic advancement of Belize. This is particularly evident in the BAA’s involvement in formulating fee structures and charges for air navigation and a diverse range of airport services, underscoring its integral role in the nation’s economic landscape.
